Fry Communications work trip

This past Monday my colleagues and I took a field trip to Fry Communications in Mechanicsburg, PA to see first-hand the process of printing thousands of magazines. It was a huge production which included four warehouses full of large paper rolls, galloons of CMYK ink and large printing presses. The smell nearly knocked me over when I entered each warehouse and I noticed that the floors were sticky with ink splatters and you had to walk in a designated area behind a railing so as not to get hit by moving fork lifts. The men operating these massive machines were so busy at work that they barely looked at us passing by. As a designer it was fascinating to watch thousands of magazines get printed in minutes. It clearly defines the word 'deadline' and it reminded me of what my job means and where my designs go. It reminded me of why I love my job.
